We’ve invited one of the world’s biggest knitters, internationally renowned US based sculptor, DAVE COLE, to knit a local landmark of grand proportions!
In his first visit to Australia, Cole will work with established and emerging artists as well as hobbyists to knit Footscray’s historic Stockbridge, slowly transforming this iconic landmark over the course of the festival into a tactile, colourful and interactive installation for all to enjoy.
Watch the daily progression of the Big Knit onsite at the bridge during the festival and join us for the grand casting-off celebration on Sat 28 November.
How can the Big Knit get bigger? Well in addition to the Cole installation, hundreds of knitters drawn from all over the west will knit and crochet our world with an extensive guerrilla knitting campaign. Putting the knitti back into gritti, their creations will transform your neighbourhood.
